Rural Remote Stays in Bodmin Moor, Cornwall

Rural Remote Stays in Bodmin Moor, Cornwall

South Priddacombe is ideal for rural remote stays and is made for people who crave space, silence and big skies. Tucked away on Bodmin Moor and reached by a couple of miles of unmade track, it’s a genuinely remote, Grade II listed farmstead where you can switch off, slow down and feel fully away from it all.

With 90 acres of moorland on the doorstep and walks in every direction, this is a place for muddy boots, tired legs and cosy evenings by the fire. No through-roads, no neighbours in earshot – just wind in the grasses, curlews, and the odd sheep for company.

What “Remote” Really Means Here

Space, Silence and Big Skies

South Priddacombe sits alone in its own pocket of Bodmin Moor. Step outside and you’re straight onto open moorland, with views that roll on for miles and starry skies on clear nights. It’s quiet enough to hear the breeze change direction and dark enough to actually see the Milky Way.

Track Access and Proper Moorland

The cottage is approached via a couple of miles of unmade track. It’s part of the experience: you leave the main road, drive out across the moor and feel everyday life falling away behind you. When you arrive, it’s just the farmhouse, the barns and the landscape.

Walks from the Door

There’s no need to get back in the car to explore. Put your boots on and head straight out:

  • Walk to Brown Willy and Rough Tor, two of Bodmin Moor’s most iconic peaks.
  • Follow old tracks and stone walls to discover ancient sites scattered across the landscape.
  • Stroll shorter loops around the farmstead if you just want to stretch your legs before supper.

A Cottage Set Up for Remote Living

Cosy, Characterful Spaces

The main house sleeps up to six in three bedrooms, with thick walls, slate floors and woodburners to come home to after a day on the moor. There’s a large antique dining table for long suppers, a lounge with a small TV and shelves of books, and a kitchen that’s geared towards relaxed, self-catered cooking.

For larger groups, the West Wing can be added, sleeping up to four more in a barn-style space with a Danish stove, moorland views and a simple kitchen area for easy meals.

Simple, Practical Comforts

South Priddacombe is a working rural setup, with:

  • Borehole water and a septic tank – with clear guidance in the house notes.
  • A well-equipped kitchen with dishwasher, slate worktops and starter housekeeping items.
  • A large walk-in shower in the utility room, plus a family bathroom with roll-top bath.
  • Egyptian cotton linen, wool duvets and warm blankets on the beds.

Rainy-Day Retreat

When the weather closes in, you’re not stuck twiddling your thumbs. Light the woodburner, open a book, play Scrabble at the dining table or head to the games barn for table tennis and table football. There’s Wi‑Fi for checking the forecast or planning the next day’s walk, but it’s easy to ignore it if you want a digital detox.

Remote, But Not Cut Off

Wild Moorland, Easy Day Trips

While the cottage feels wonderfully isolated, you’re still well-placed for exploring Cornwall:

Rural Pubs and Local Food

After a day out, head to one of the moorland pubs for a pint and a hearty meal, or stock up on local produce and cook back at the cottage. The big dining table and outdoor seating area in the yard are made for long, simple meals together.

Dog-Friendly, Family-Friendly Escapes

Bring the Dogs

South Priddacombe is very dog-friendly. With 90 acres on the doorstep and an outdoor tap for muddy paws, it’s ideal for four-legged guests. There are a few sensible house rules – no dogs on the furniture or upstairs, and leads outside if there is livestock in the fields – but otherwise they’re welcome to join in the adventure.

Room for Families and Friends

Children and infants are welcome, with two travel cots and a high chair available (bring cot linen). The layout works well for families or groups of friends who want plenty of space indoors and out, from the big yard and garden to the games barn and moor beyond.
